Smith rushed for 142 yards on 13 carries including an 80-yard touchdown early in the third quarter.  The 80-yard touchdown is the third longest rushing touchdown in the FCS this season.  Smith’s 80-yard scamper was just the 11th EIU career rushing touchdown covering 80 or more yards and the first since Malik Harrison ran 83 yards against Tennessee Tech (Oct. 24, 2015).

The Gamecocks (7-2, 4-1 Ohio Valley Conference) suffered their first conference setback Sunday against Austin Peay in a 13-10 loss. Jacksonville State is still alive for the conference championship, but it will need to win its final two games of the season – at Eastern Illinois (1-4, 1-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday and at OVC leader No. 14 Murray State at 2 p.m. April 11. The Racers (5-0, 5-0) are unbeaten in the conference, but the Gamecocks can still win the conference by winning out.

Jacksonville State vs Eastern Illinois Game Preview

The Gamecocks saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to Austin Peay on Sunday, 13-10. The team had not lost since falling to Florida State back on October 3. Eastern Illinois lost their fourth game out of their first five when they fell at Murray State on Sunday, 41-27.

Jacksonville State mustered just 16 first downs and 259 yards of total offense in falling to Austin Peay, 13-10. Zion Webb had a tough afternoon, completing nine of 26 passes for 111 yards and he was picked off four times. Josh Samuel rushed for 89 yards on 20 carries and scored the lone touchdown for the team.
